Oral Surgeon

What is oral surgery?

Oral surgery refers to any procedures performed on the mouth with regard to the teeth, jaw, and/or gums. This includes dental implants, extractions, gum grafts, corrective jaw surgery and more.

The difference between a prosthodontist and an oral surgeon:
General dentists prevent, evaluate, diagnose, and treat diseases of the oral cavity. General dentists help patients maintain the function and appearance of their teeth. At a general dentist’s office, you will receive teeth cleaning, X-rays, and a comprehensive screening for dental problems.

Oral surgeons, also called maxillofacial surgeons, treat facial conditions related to the face, mouth and jaws — both the soft and hard tissues.  They perform corrective and therapeutic procedures on the mouths and jaws of their patients. A general dentist will normally refer patients to an oral surgeon when a problem is beyond the scope of his or her expertise.

Common oral surgery procedures include:

  1. Dental Implant Installation
  2. Tooth extractions
  3. Bone grafting
  4. Corrective Jaw Surgery
  5. Sleep Apnea Treatment
    And more!

Oral surgery can significantly improve your comfort, the aesthetics of your smile, and the function of your bite. At Your Desired Smile, our practice takes a unique holistic approach to dental care to optimize successful outcomes for our patients.
